Habitat for Humanity Niagara operates a retail outlet – the ReStore – selling donated new and used building materials, hardware, appliances, and home supplies. Revenue from the ReStore supports our overhead costs ensuring that every donated dollar goes directly to building new homes for families. The Habitat Niagara ReStore also operates an E-Waste program and Salvage Program. In 2013, Habitat Niagara – through e-waste donations by people in our community – sent 326,240 pounds of e-waste to be recycled. That’s equal to 148 metric tonnes of waste diverted from landfills. In carbon footprint terms, that’s equal to taking 85 cars off the road for one year. The Salvage Program sees skilled Habitat volunteers remove kitchens, bathrooms and other usable items from households that are renovating. This service is offered free of charge and the homeowners receive a tax receipt when their items are sold at the ReStore. Habitat for Humanity Niagara ReStore Fonthill location will be opening in the Spring of 2015 at 2499 Highway 20 East.
